Temples - Our Spiritual Abodes

As a human being, I think being spiritual is good for our mental health. It disciplines our mind to a large extent. As long we stuck in that teenage mindset, we cannot focus on big things in life. Even our scope becomes narrow during that time. After stepping into adult life, our thoughts change for better life. Suddenly, our self-centered mindset dilutes away paving way to understand others. In other words, we start understanding other people's perspectives. we start empathizing with them. we slowly become emotionally involved with others. Maybe during this time, people taste real love; such a kind of love where people sync with each other without any conditions. here, love means not only between two people of different genders. it can be the merge of the human soul with spiritual supreme being; God.

When one starts loving God like that, I mean unconditional love, then definitely s/he is interested in keeping his/her beloved in a beautiful place, decorate it just like how s/he wants with rich stuff whatever s/he could lay his/her hands on, etc.

In this case, I am referring about the temples here. Why not we beautify them, keep them clean, make them a wonderful place so that people can peacefully sit and pray forgetting all their problems?

What do say spirituals?

Why Not We Re-Rich Our Temples?

In India, Hindus consider Temples as their first spiritual home. Most of the Hindus religiously worship their innumerable gods and goddesses every day by visiting the temples. Even if you look at history, Indian temples played strategic roles in the formation of villages, towns, cities, etc., since eons. Temples in India, not only act as spiritual centers but also play as gathering centers; for example, a ‘vortex of attraction’ for gathering people around a particular cause, a place to deliver judgments related to crimes, a get-together entertainment center of surrounding nearby habitats, etc.

As you know, Hinduism is a way of life. And there is no dearth of Gods and Goddesses in Hinduism; their number runs into millions. As per Hindu scriptures, although there are innumerable Gods who rules and presides over various occasions, ultimately, they are all descendants of a super power, who is none other than the PARAMATMA himself.  Due to this reason, Hindu people, no matter whichever sub-deity they worship, they think in their minds that they are worshipping PARAMATMA – the ultimate divine power.

Hindus are idol worshippers. Just like how every day they beautify their bodies by cleaning it with different solvents and beautify themselves by decorating it with different ornaments, Hindus want to decorate their Gods also in the same way. Every day, at temples, purohits (designated Brahmin people to perform the Hindu God’s rituals as per scriptures) clean God’s idol and decorate it with beautiful ornaments. They have been doing this since the day Hinduism born and have been continuing till today. They recite the vedic chants while refreshing the deity; this whole process spreads a beautiful serene atmosphere on its surroundings while providing the worshippers a tranquility of mind.

In earlier days, Hindustan (the land of Hindus or the present country India) was a bountiful country. It used to be a dreamland for so many other countries in near and far away regions. It was a land of riches and comforts filled with pious and peace loving people. But God has written a different fate for it. Its riches has becomes its curse. Because of this, it has become an enemy to so many other nearby and faraway barbarian countries who knows nothing but plundering the riches of other people and taking away their peace from their minds.

Hindustan was attacked by so many barbarians, who plundered and bled it like hell. However, they were unable to plunder it completely as the riches of the country were more than the proportion of the barbarian’s greed. So, they invaded it so many times, repeatedly. They took all those precious stones, metals, etc. But, Hindustan has just let them take it whatever they want. Just like a mango tree which offers sweet mangoes to those not only who wants to eat but also those who hit it with stones and pluck the raw mangoes before they got ripen just to sell them in the market for a few bucks, Hindustan has given its riches to all those needy and greedy without uttering a single word. Due to this, all those temples which used to be treasure troves of Hindustan have become dilapidated centers of desperateness now!

Now, after India got its independence, Indian people want to revive their temples and take them to their old grandeur stage. As part of this effort, this blog proposes one NEW idea. Why not we make our temples rich again? Why not we make them treasure troves again?

Looking at the number of Hindus residing in different parts of the world and their earning capacities, this blog feels that it is not an impossible dream to revive our old precious temples and make them regain their status as TREASURE TROVES. And as a first step, why not we cover our gods and goddesses in gold; at least their idols? We can do this provided if we can commit ourselves.

By taking this task as an initiative and making sure that all the main idols in your nearest temples are covered in gold, directly you help your spiritual soul and indirectly, you help your nation to become rich.

What do you say my fellow Indian?
